All I can do with insecurites…

Is to distract you from them, by accentuating the positive ones. If you are trying to conceal your shape entirely, you will look much heavier and shapeless. And that is never attractive!

Tips for large sizes: Don’t wear a square, boxy looking jacket, it will make you look all bulky. Try instead an elongated one with a softly filled shape.

Use pants with clean lines, and I mean no pleats nor pockets. It will give you a slim fit.

Wear dark colors, it does make you look thinner. But do wear some bright color for accentuations that will give you a pretty look.

Use elastic-waist skirts or pants with a larger top over it, it creates a svelte look. Elastic will hang evenly all the way around.

Use only vertical print-stripes that elongates your body.

Don’t hide everything away, showing a little skin is always feminine and sexy on every woman.

Try V-Necks that show cleavage or a strapless dress with a scarf around your neck and wait for some comments.

I often hear complaints about broad shoulders, so strip off shoulder-pads if they seem abusive to your clothing. If you are trying to narrow the shoulders, it means that everything with a structure is a no, no. Try straps that are cut in an angle towards your neck and show some skin, a halter for example. This skin exposure plus the angle lines, distracts the squareness of the shoulders.

Narrow shoulders are much harder to hide, because you have to build up in a natural way. So please, never ever wear shoulder pads in your bra stripes, they have a way to make your body look disfigured. Best if you have them fixed and sewed back in.

Now, you may think that a size 4 woman has it all, no dilemma in her life, but rise your voices, all of you that are thin, they have a bad time dressing too. For short women, proportion is key, not everything you own must be short, you can wear a long jacket with a short skirt and vice-versa.

And don’t get me started on complaints for big butts! I come from a place that adores big round behinds, curvy women are the most admired. But as clothes do, this part of the body has become a fashion trend too.

In the 90’s women’s bodies would be preferred with a big front and the behind was all forgotten about. Now day, we see girls and families making a business out of showing off their big butts. Hurray for them! because curvy women are back! But I have some bad news: the backside drops, ladies! And flattens too as you get older, so unless you have a surgeon fix it for you, you will need to lift the skirts up to your waistband.

Wide hips are a real problem, as they can throw off your proportions, so thank God for the slim pants and send to hell all man-tailored trousers. The best pants off all, which I see little off, are the ones with the zipper on the sides. They give a slim look because it leaves the front totally smooth, and it gets better if you take all the pockets out!

If your problem is a tommy, the best way to fool, is any top that ends just above the hipbone, best if is squared shape that flows free until the hip and does not bind at the bottom. The best look? A top cut in diagonal with a pair of slim trousers or skirt.

Now, the ultimate belly comes with pregnant women, which are very tough to buy, no blame! Maternity clothes are often very unflattering and unfashionable. I wore real clothes as long as a could and waited until I needed maternity bottoms. Here H&M and recently Zara, did me a real favor, with cool looking jeans that aren’t expensive and you can grow on them, also cocktail dresses for events and with breast feeding gears.

Pick two slim pants, two leggings and two skirts to be your basics through the whole pregnancy. Try them with man shirts, even wear them over a big cardigan or A-line tops, like mandarin collar jackets that open from the neck in an A form down. Also look for A-line dresses in flowing fabrics, anything with an empire cut, it will give you the illusion of shape without feeling tight.

If you kept your skinny legs, shorten anything! If you like your glowing breast, show cleavage. And please, show your arms, this time they will look slim compare to the rest of your body. Accessorize! Face and chest.

Let me know which body parts are you trying to hide and how do you make it work for you!
