It’s about finding out what’s becoming to your body and move on! There is more in life than what you wear. So, I encourage everyone to accessorize, it is what makes you the designer of your own personality and wardrobe. Now a days we are influence by the “less is more” modo, so I get that you feel anxious when walking by the accessory’s stores.

One of the many good things about this hipster or hippie movement, is they do like a flea market; I personally love the ones in London. I always like to ask what year was it made and how did ladies use to wear it. Maybe they tell me a made-up story, but still, I feel wearing something special. Do not be intimidated by it, have fun with it, make it a project: a fashion project to buy a pin, scarf, shoes, bags or earrings that speaks to you, take it home and then work an outfit around it.

I love to buy pins; I love my pins! Not many young women use them these days, but they receive so much comments when I show them off, they are a great conversation starter. Just look at little girls having fun with their candy jewelry, their princess tiara, even stickers. Something happens to us as we grow up, that we forget how to have fun accessorizing.

Today, the best way to accessorize without feeling guilty or like we are back on the gilded ages, is to buy a functional one: bags, watches, sun-glasses. The superficial have been put aside. I hear women overthinking if they have the need to buy this or that…. But that is not what adornment is about, when would you actually need to have a bracelet? Never! Its just for fun.

How to buy them? It is like buying an art piece, it is about collecting, it is about falling in love with something that speaks to you and above all, makes you feel good when you put it on. Trust your eye, jewelry is a sentimental and emotional thing: if you like animals, your eye will catch animal earrings, if you like nature, you probably learned to accessorize your self with leaves figures or trees, if you like geometry, your eye will get caught looking at geometric neckless.

When that special someone gives you jewelry for the first time, it is the most delightful experience. I bet you keep it, even if it is not expensive or becoming to your likes. There are no rules when it comes to it, you just need to wear them, is hard to go wrong wearing…lest say: a scarf.

Earlier years, custom jewelry was considered just for the people who didn’t had the means to buy the real deal. But thanks to Coco Channel, that was changed. She would design and wear a mix, both real and fake. Today is so easy to find custom jewelry of high cost. But if it is not expensive, it is a fun way to try a new or revamped outlook without buying a new one.

Let’s start by…

Earrings, if you want to buy something, this is where you should start. If you want anything else go ahead and make the search. But earrings never go out of style, makes you feel dress-up even with a sporty look.

If you have a hair style that pulls hair away from face and shows lots of ears, the best ones are the simple studs: a pearl, diamond or fakes. If you have long hair, go ahead and wear big ones, that shine everywhere you turn your head to. If you have a square face, don’t wear square earrings, if you have a diamond face, don’t wear them with much angles. For round faces, the most becoming are the ones that are long and angled. If you have a chin that stands out, wear them curvy. Long face? Don’t own long ones.

Necklaces, wear short ones if you are not sure what to buy, a delicate one looks great on every neck, except the broad ones. Go classic and buy them in pearls, they do wonders on every complexion. If you have a long face, don’t wear a long necklace, on the contrary if you have a rounded face, avoid chockers.

Pins, I encourage everybody to have their collection, pick something you can relate to and leave it pined to a jacket and it should shine as new. And you can pin it anywhere, not just at a corner of your chest, try it on the center of a neckline, on a necklace or a collar of a blouse. If you have a rounded face, pins look best near your shoulder.

Bracelets, not much to say here, just have in mind that if the sleeves of your top are not shortened enough to accommodate one, it will keep catching on the fabric and end ruining your top or bracelet.

Rings, I love how most people don’t worry about matching it up with any other accessory. Have a big extravagant one for an evening dress. Day to day rings should be trade every now and then. Don’t wear them forever.

Watches, if you are going to invest in a piece of jewelry, a watch is a very good place to bet your money on. A classic watch is… timeless! Have in mind that a simple shape, good quality watch is all anyone really needs. If overtime you get to have a collection of them, they become a real fashion accessory, that you change depending on your mood, outfit or activity. Colorful ones like Swatch are being bought just for fun!

Scarves, when shopping for scarves, be sure to touch them, don’t just choose between patterns and colors. It is the luxury of the fabric that makes the scarf: cashmere, chiffon, silk… the printed silk square, like the Hermès, are very versatile and easy to wear, that is why is the most bought.

You can tie it and wrap it around your neck, or use is as a belt, around your chest as a bandeau or around your head as if about to drive a convertible. You can even tuck it around the inside neck of a suit jacket as a blouse, or tie it around your waist or hips. A small one can be used as a pocket square to dress up a jacket. Use a big one as a pareo for the beach. For knots, try to use a barred ring to hold it together. As you can see, there are a lot of ways to have fun with a scarf and they can light up any outfit.

Glasses, corrective or sunglasses, is one hot accessory: is a MUST for almost everyone. Buy them as if you were framing your face for a picture. You want to frame your face, not hide it! Thin, wired-framed glasses are perfect for women with small faces, or for anyone who wants their glasses to fade into the background.

But now, everyone likes the big, bold frames that show a fashion signature, it really depends on what you are comfortable with. There is no rule, you can always collect a few and change them as the mood strikes you. For square faces buy them round or oval and wide, light frame in a light color. For diamond faces, wear them rounded or angled, best with the horizontal top mount. If your face is rounded, have them with angular or square shape, narrow with strong colors. Is your face triangular? Buy glasses that have curved angles up and with a smooth contour. And finally, if you have a long face, you will look best with rectangular, rounded and large glasses that are little and thick.

I don’t want to make this post too heavy; I will be back and continue with bags, belts, shoes, stockings… I don’t want to leave anything behind! I’m leaving you time to buy those earrings!!!
