Now every commercial regarding fashion, strikes to get into your head saying color is back. But if you get to see all of the audience in the fashion show industry, you will see everybody wearing black. Why? Because black never goes out of style.

If you are going to splurge on something new, think of making it black. It just goes with everything. You can wear any item in black many times a week and hardly anyone will notice, plus, you can wear it for years and only need to clean it twice. With black, even a red wine spill can’t ruin it, it really does make you look thinner and you will look expensive even if it is not, and you can wear it all year round, in any weather, to any event…

And like every working woman, I get out of bed in the morning and need to get dressed in a hurry. I find that the easiest thing for me to reach for is black, think about it: you get to wear those miraculous black stockings that cover everything, and with black, you will always match.

Black is easy, because it works as a backup to everything, I pile on top of it: pins, necklaces, bracelets or a brilliant color sweater. It doesn’t really require that much thought, it simplifies your closet, shopping trips and laundry work.

There are basic ways to linen-up your black attire: Wrap an animal print around neck or belt, add a big gold or silver necklace, add color or texture to your stockings, or wear bright colored shoes or handbags

For example, wear a colored sweater or shirt under a black suit. But if you won’t risk it with a bright color, at least mix black pieces with other neutral basics like navy or brown. If you are addicted to black, just start with some interesting touches: clean haircut, nice earrings, good shoes and handbag. It is ok to feel save in black as it is always appropriate and you will look good, but do not expect to stand out from the crowd.

You will know when you’ve had enough of black when people say you look vibrant when you show up in gray, or when you can`t even be able to tell your clothes apart and have to put a light in your closet. And when shopping starts to be so boring, because what you automatically buy in black starts to look all the same.

I am amazed to see how many people are afraid to mix and match their made outfits, when mixing up your pieces is the best, easiest and cheapest way to extend your wardrobe. I’m going to give you what I consider are the basics rules of mix and match:

Do not wear a boxy top over jeans, you will look like… a box!

Have in mind and trust your eye, that not all colors are created equal, not even of the same shade. Before leaving home with a total color look, be sure they really match and recreate your personal style.

Fitted jackets and straight skirts are foolproof match, but don`t be misled by magazines that show a pink sweater with a red jacket and orange skirt, this rarely looks chic. Classic man-tailored trousers can be safely mixed with most tops, even the simple ones.

A structured top with structured bottoms, can make you look pregnant, no matter how thin you are. Remember your shape, look in the mirror and decide what you want to brag about: top or bottom, and show it to the world.

Dressy and casual, is a tough mix, now a days its on the cover of every magazine. Get there some inspiration, or scroll down your IG to catch how the influencers are doing it. Notice how materials play an important role!

If you buy an outfit and are able to create six more with what you already own, then you know you have made a wise investment.
